Sketch Saturday Challenge #545

Welcome to the first Sketch Saturday challenge of 2019! What will you create using the sketch design below?

Sketch Saturday Challenge #545

This week's sponsor is Heartcraft Paper and they are offering a wonderful prize pack to the winner! To submit your entry, take a picture of your project and link to it on THIS Sketch Saturday blog post using the InLinkz tool at the bottom of that post.

You have until Friday January 11th at 7pm (United Kingdom time) to enter. For complete details please visit read the Challenge Rules on the Sketch Saturday blog. Good luck and have fun creating!

Here is the card that I created:

I used the Baby Draco digi stamp by Heartcraft Paper. I printed the digi on Canson Mi-Teintes paper (on the smooth side) from the Silhouette Studio program so that I could use my Cameo's Print & Cut feature. That way, after coloring him in, my Silhouette Cameo cut him out for me! I love this feature! To see another project I created with Print & Cut click HERE.

I added a few scale details to the digi while I was coloring it. This was my first time drawing and coloring scales, and also my first time coloring crystals. I am so in love with colored pencils, and am really enjoying challenging my skills with new techniques.

One other thing I like to do is outline the image with a black pen. I don't do this with all my coloring, but with some images I think the bold, black outline makes it stand out really well. I outlined this image with a black Gelly Roll pen. I also went over the whites of the eyes with a white Gelly Roll pen just so that the whites were nice and bright!

To incorporate the two vertical banners in the sketch, I temporarily adhered them to the background while I did my stamping. I used several small stamps from the No Bones About It stamp set by Stampin' Up!. I repeatedly stamped these images to create my background. The colors I used were:
  • Mint Macaron
  • Soft Sea Foam
  • Blushing Bride
  • Balmy Blue
  • Island Indigo (retired)
Then after stamping, I removed the banners and popped them up from the background with foam tape. I really like how this adds subtle dimension to the card by breaking up the background, but doesn't distract from the focal image of the card.

The sentiment comes from the Emphatic stamp set from Simon Says Stamp, and I heat embossed the top part with Ranger Gold embossing powder. The six dots on the left side of the card are Tonic Studios Nuvo drops in the color Caribbean Ocean.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I'm really excited to start this new adventure with Sketch Saturday! I hope that you'll be inspired to get creative and enter your projects.

If you need some help/ideas for your project, just send me a message on Instagram or Facebook. Have a good day!
