Sketch Saturday Challenge # 555 with Beccy's Place

Welcome to another Sketch Saturday Challenge! What will you create using this week's sketch as inspiration?

Here is the card that I created with this stack of teacups digi from the Tea Time Digital Stamp Set by Beccy's Place:

Sketch Saturday Challenge # 555

This week's sponsor is Beccy's Place, and they are offering a fabulous prize to the winner. To play along in the challenge, take a picture of your project, and link to it on THIS week's Challenge blog post.

You have until Friday, March 22nd at 7pm (United Kingdom time) to enter. For complete details, please read the Challenge Rules on the Sketch Saturday blog. Good luck and have fun creating!

I used my Prismacolor colored pencils to color this digi. The colors I used are:

Peach teacup: Peach, Light Peach, White, & Metallic Gold
Yellow teacup: Golden Rod, Jasmine, White, & Brozne
Roses teacup: Peach, Kelly Green, 20% Cool Gray, & 10% Cool Gray
Blue teacup: Muted Turquoise, Sky Blue Light, White, & Metallic Gold
Green teacup: Dark Green, Kelly Green, Sap Green Light, Pale Sage, White, & Metallic Gold
Platform: 20% and 10% Cool Gray

When I first saw this digi, I immediately thought "shabby chic." Although this isn't my usual card making style, I thought I'd try something a little different and new for me. To get some inspiration, I clicked over to Pinterest and typed in the phrase "shabby chic handmade card." There are so many beautiful and creative projects on Pinterest! I think I could spend hours on the site just browsing! If you like Pinterest too, you can follow me by clicking HERE!

The patterned papers I used are from many, many years ago. I had to dig WAY down into my stash to find them - but there they were! The pattern and coloring lend themselves well to a distressed look so they are perfect for this shabby chic card.

To add even more distressing to the papers, I tore around the edges using a ruler as a guide to keep the tears somewhat straight. A lot of patterned papers have a "white core" to them so depending which way you tear the paper (either away from you or toward you) the white core may or may not be visible. I chose not to have the white core exposed for this project. I also lightly tapped an ink blending tool around the edges of the papers with Vintage Photo Distress Ink to give them an even more distressed look.

The sentiment comes from the Kit-Tea stamp set by Hero Arts. I stamped it in black ink on vellum and then heat set it with clear Hero Arts embossing powder. I even popped out my sewing machine for this project - to add just a few quick, wonky stitches in the top left corner to hold the banners in place.

So I don't usually do shabby chic cards like this, but I'm glad I stepped out of the usual to do something new. It's refreshing! And I think the card turned out pretty cute 😜. I hope you'll join us in this week's Sketch Saturday Challenge. I really feel like it's a workout for my creativity to do these every week (but you don't have to do it every week!)

Also, head on over to the Sketch Saturday Blog and see what the other DT gals have created this week - you might just be inspired (you definitely will - their projects are super cute!)  Have a good day friends!
