Sketch Saturday Challenge # 554 with Fabrika Fantasy

Welcome to another Sketch Saturday Challenge! What will you create using this week's sketch as inspiration?

Here is the card that I created using the Mischievous Leprechaun by Fabrika Fantasy:

 Sketch Saturday Challenge # 554

This week's sponsor is Fabrika Fantasy, and they are offering a fabulous prize to the winner. To play along in the challenge, take a picture of your project, and link to it on THIS week's Challenge blog post using the InLinkz tool at the bottom of the post.

You have until Friday, March 15th at 7pm (United Kingdom time) to enter. For complete details, please read the Challenge Rules on the Sketch Saturday blog. Good luck and have fun creating!

So, St. Patrick's Day is only a week away so I decided to create a card this with adorable little leprechaun! He's printed with my Canon PIXMA printer on Canson Mi-Teintes paper because I colored him with my Prismacolor Colored Pencils (and this is my fave paper for my colored pencils!)

I really had a lot of fun coloring this little guy! Here are some tips I'd like to share that I really found useful while coloring:

  1. For the larger areas (i.e. the cauldron and hat), a paper stump worked great for blending!
  2. For the smaller areas, a blending pencil worked great for blending to really get into the tight spaces.
  3. After coloring the whole thing, I sharpened my black pencil to a really, really sharp point and went over the black outlines. Some of them had been dulled from going over them with colored pencil, and it really makes a big difference to darken them again, especially in the face.

After I finished coloring, I used my Cutter Bee scissors to cut him out; these scissors are small and come to a fine point so they really help to get into tight spaces. Then, I liberally applied foam tape to the back of him. I had to cut the foam strips into small pieces to really get good coverage, and when cutting something sticky, I use my Tim Holtz serrated scissors because the blades are nonstick. If adhesive does stick to them it's super easy to clean them off.

So as for the sketch, I kinda moved things around - just a little bit. Since this digi is pretty detailed, I wanted to print it as big as possible, but still have it fit on an A2 sized card. With that, I just took a little creative license with where the elements in the sketch are and just moved them a little to fit with the image. The rainbow paper I used is from the Lawn Fawn 6x6 Really Rainbow Paper Pack. I love this paper pack and go to it regularly!

The background was created with the Reverse Polka background stamp by Simon Says Stamp. I stamped it in Lucky Limeade Stampin' Up! ink (retired color) on a piece of Neenah white card stock. I used this background stamp in last week's SS card too. I find that when I pull out something I haven't used in awhile (for example this background stamp) that I fall back in love with it and use it quite a few times. Has that ever happened to you? You "shop your stash" and find something that you love, but just forgot you had?

And of course I had to add something shiny - not just because I like shiny things! - but because the gold sequins remind me of gold coins! While making this card I realized I don't have any stamps that say "Happy St. Patrick's Day," so I expanded my search and came across this "wishing" sentiment from the Deco Borders and Corners stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. I love making the most of my stamp sets by using them in different ways!

Well thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today! I hope you'll join us in this week's Sketch Saturday challenge. It really is a ton of fun; I love challenging my creativity each week, and I'm creating a card in the process too!  Have a great weekend, my friends!
