Happy Birthday card using Love Love Love by Graciellie Designs

Hello! I'm so happy I finally get to share this birthday card I made for my best friend! I didn't want to share it until she had recieved it (just in case she peeked at my blog! 😋), and she called me the other day to say it arrived safe and sound.

This is a birthday card I made for my absolute bestest friend. She lives 600 miles away, and it's hard when your best friend lives so far away. I occassionally will send her cards and little things in the mail as a way to let her know that I'm always thinking of her!

I certainly had a lot of fun making this card. My bestie has a degree in geology so I initially thought I'd color the large heart as a geode. This heart image is from the Love, Love, Love digi stamp by Graciellie Design (I LOVE her work!). This stamp is listed until the Valentine's Day stamps, but you can use it all year round! Ultimately, I decided to color it as a wooden heart, because my friend also really likes camping, hiking, and the outdoors, but I haven't forgotten the geode idea; I think it would make a gorgeous card!

I printed this digi on Canson Mixed Media paper and colored it with the Odyssey Prima Watercolor Confections watercolors. I alternated the colors Cusco and Dubai, using my Prima water brush to fill in the concentric hearts. When it completely dried, I went over every other layer with a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush pen to add some super, duper shimmer (bummer that pics don't do it justice, but trust me it's beautifully shimmery in real life!)

To create the background I used a Stampin' Up! stencil mask and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink with an ink blending tool to add the diamond pattern diagonally across this Neenah Desert Storm card stock panel. I then splattered on some black acrylic paint, let it dry, and then added a faux stitched edge with the My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle Stax die.

To create the foliage behind the heart, I stamped some leaves and small flower buds from the Bold Flowers stamp set by Simon Say Stamp. Then, I used the coordinating dies to cut them out.

I then had this genious idea to add some thin silver thread winding around behind the elements, but I realized I didn't have any silver thread. So I dashed to the craft store just to pick some up! I just had to have it for this card, and I'm really glad I added it because it just adds something special to this card.

I arranged the leaves and adhered them to my card with foam squares, then put the heart over top, also with foam squares. I purposely placed the heart with the left side hanging just slightly off the card. I trimmed that little bit off just to add more interest to the card.

Lastly the sentiment comes from the Handmade Essentials stamp set from Scrapbook.com. I stamped it in black ink then applied Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder over top and heat set it.  I then cut out the sentiment with the My Favorite Things sentiment strips die. I adhered it to my card with foam squares.

I'm so happy with this card, and I'm so happy my friend told me the same. That's why I make cards - because it makes me happy to make them and give them so it can make someone else happy as well. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Thanks so much for commenting, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
