Sketch Saturday Challenge #549 with Star Stampz

Welcome to another Sketch Saturday Challenge! What will you create using this week's sketch as inspiration?

Sketch Saturday Challenge #549

This week's sponsor is Star Stampz, and they are offering some fabulous prizes to the winner. To play along in the challenge, take a picture of your project, and link to it on THIS week's Challenge blog post using the InLinkz tool at the bottom of the post.

You have until Friday February 8th at 7pm (United Kingdom time) to enter. For complete details, please read the Challenge Rules on the Sketch Saturday blog. Good luck and have fun creating!

Here is the card that I created using the Sakura Cherry Blossom Digital Stamp by Star Stampz:

It all started with the background for this card. I had been meaning to create more projects with kraft cardstock and use my Distress Oxide inks more, so I decided I'd use them both for this card!

I randomly blended Fired Brick and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink over a piece of Neenah Desert Storm card stock with an ink blending tool. These inks are so super creamy that they go on really smoothly and easily. Then, I added some splatters with both colors and just some clean, clear water.  To me, this background evokes the image and mood of a cherry blossom tree with a million little petals swirling down around you.

I colored the girl with my Arteza Real Brush pens on Strathmore Vision Mixed Media Paper, and my Silhouette Cameo 3 cut her out. I'd usually use a Bristol Smooth paper with pens like these, but I can't fit it into my printer (the paper it too thick). The Mixed Media paper, though, went through nicely in my printer and held up pretty well in with the water-based pens too.

Colors Used:

Skin: Pale Skin, Bubblegum Pink
Hair: Red, Fuchsia, Bubblegum Pink
Eyes: Teal, Dark Blue
Flowers: Dark Blue, Shamrock Green
White socks: Ice Blue
Kimono: Red, Dark Blue, Sunset Yellow, Shamrock Green
Bow (behind kimono): Orange Rust, Sunset Yellow

I had some leftover bits of beautifully ornate origami paper from a previous project, and I thought it would be perfect to accent this beautiful girl. I die cut a piece with a Honey Bee Stamps Scallop A2 frame die and layered it behind a piece of textured pink cardstock.

The sentiment I chose comes from the Sketch Lotus Flowers stamp set from Simon Says Stamp, which I heat embossed in Ranger Super Fine Gold Embossing Powder on vellum. The trick to embossing on vellum is to let your heat tool warm up 'til it's nice and hot, and then don't hold the heat in one spot too long - keep the tool moving until the powder melts, then immediately pull the tool away.

Foam tape pops up the different elements on my card and with just a (very) light touch of some sequins and gold thread, I called this card done.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Love reading your comments, so don't be shy! And good luck in this week's challenge. I'm so excited to see what you create!
