Back to School!

It's back to school time! Well, not for me. I can proudly say that last December I graduated from Sac State with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences, Nutrition and Food concentration (a mouthful, yes, but I don’t mind because I am so freakin’ proud of myself! Toot toot! That was just me tootin' my own horn for a quick sec! 😋).

This is a back to school card I created for my little cousins. They just started 7th and 3rd grade. I love them so much and like to do special little things for them from time to time. So, I created this card and snuck a Target gift card inside!

For this card, I used the School Bus Messages and coordinating School Bus Messages Wafer Die set by Simon Says Stamp. I colored the image with Copic markers and added Grey Mist and Strawberry Coulis Nuvo Jewel Drops over the lights, just to give a little gloss and dimension. I also added Wink of Stella in Glitter Silver over the bumper for just a little sparkle!

QUICK TIP: if you're going to add Nuvo drops to your project - do that after you're completely done with any die cutting or else the die cutting machine will flatten out your drops! (Ask me how I know!)

I used the Simon Says Stencils Clouds for Days and Waves and Hills stencils to create the background with Tumbled Glass, Mowed Lawn, and Black Soot Distress Ink and an ink blending tool. To create the road I used 2 Post-it Super Sticky Full Adhesive Notes to mask off a triangle at the bottom of my card.

I popped up the school bus image with white fun foam cut from the school bus die. The fun foam holds the card together better when it's being run through the mailing and sorting machines at the Post Office. Fun foam is very light, but it does add a little weight and bulk to your card so be sure to add enough postage if you use it!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'd love for you to leave a comment and share this blog with your friends! Also, there's still time to subscribe and comment on Monday's blog post for a chance to win one of my handmade cards!

This card is also an entry for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Back to School!
