A big, bold (but super easy) background!

I have to admit that before creating this card, I had never colored a mandala before (GASP! I know!). I'm so glad that I decided to give it a try because this Center Cut Burst background stamp from Simon Says Stamp is such a beautiful stamp and really fun to color. (And with this stamp you can even remove the middle part to make even more designs!)

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a 4.25" x 5.5" Neenah Solar White Card Stock panel.

The Copic Marker colors I used:
V 06
RV 66
YG 17 & 21
BG 49
B 29

And of course I had to add some bling! I selected a few jems from the Rainbow Sparkle mix from Lucy's Cards. I adhered them with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and used a Marvy Jewel Picker to pick up the jewels and put them in place (makes it so easy!) I also chose a few jewels from the Ice Cube mix as well.

For the sentiment, I used the Big Friends wafer dies set by Simon Says Stamp and ran it through my Tim Holtz Vagabond 2 die cutting machine with a Stick It Adhesive Sheet applied to the front of a piece of card stock.

After peeling off the Stick It backing exposing the adhesive, I put down a piece of Heidi Swapp MINC reactive foil in silver over top.

Now, you could just burnish it really well to get the foil to stick, but I like to run it through my Mini MINC machine to get really good adhesion (a laminating machine would work too). Then, I removed the foil sheet and even though I've done this many times, I'm still amazed by the result! (It only sticks to the adhesive!) Pretty cool, huh?

I then adhered it to a strip of vellum I stamped with "to the absolute best" from the Mom and Dad Icons stamp set.

I wanted the vellum piece to be raised from the card so I die cut the shadow friend die from white fun foam and glued it to the back of the vellum - aligning it right under the foiled piece on the front. Then adhered the foam piece with the vellum attached to my card panel.

Quick tip: Use a very light hand when apply wet glue to vellum. The vellum wrinkles very easily with too much adhesive. I used just tiny dabs of the Ranger Multi Medium Matte using a precision applicator tip.

I really like this card turned out! The bold background sticks out, but adding the vellum let's the sentiment not distract from the background.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Please leave me a comment - I love hearing from you!
