Another first for me was using temporary spray adhesive with my
stencil. Until now, I just used blue painters tape to hold down the stencil.
Sometimes though with really intricate designs, like the one in Folk Dance,
the small, thin parts of the design can shift or bend which causes a slight distortion
of the stenciled image. It’s usually not badly distorted, but if you really
want a perfect stenciled design, it might bug you. With the temporary spray
adhesive applied to one side of the stencil, I could lay it down on my paper and the entire design (little
bits and all) would stay in place. And since the adhesive is temporary, I can lift
it off my paper no problem.
For the first card I blended Silver Gem, Pink Opal, and Moonstone Nuvo Glitter Paste.
I took a little bit out of each jar (cleaning my palette knife in between colors)
and starting spreading them along the stencil with the back of the palette knife.
When I had achieved good coverage, I removed the stencil and let dry. It
actually dries rather quickly. For the next card, I decided to stick with just
Golden Crystal and Pink Opal.
I played around with different die cut sentiments and
thought the Happy Birthday die from Stampin up looked best. I really wanted it
to pop so I stacked five die cuts together and used Ranger Multi Medium Matte adhesive to glue them together. I did the same with the Stitched Rectangle Scallop Frame by My Favorite Things.
Lastly, I couldn’t resist adding the “To you!” strip, stamped from another Stampin up
stamp set.
I’m really happy that I finally took the time to make these cards. I really like them both! And
I really, really like how the temporary spray adhesive gave me so much more control with the stencil. I think I am going to be using this trick with more of my stencils in the future.
